Love, Hate and Mental Health? (Excerpt from book, “Suicidal, NOT: Maximize Your Mental Health- Volume Two” by R.K.B.)

Excerpt from Chapter 8

❤️ You and Love/Hate ❤️

When you think of love, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Maybe it’s the love of self, things, family or a significant other – or, maybe it’s betrayal, deceit, abandonment, or heartbreak. Either way, I can relate. I have relished in the joy and sweetness of loving something or someone, while also having drowned in the pain of that same love that was never reciprocated or proved to be worth it in the end. Sometimes, it was due to my own poor judgment, and other times, I never even saw it coming.

I have gotten caught up and wrapped up in my love for money, sex, pills, succeeding in academia, impressing people on social media, traveling, lying about how life was really going for me to others, and faking my happiness overall. I got caught up in lying about my love for life.

Thus, I had to realize – what was the point if it’s not even real?

I realized that I need MY love for life to be real.

“Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.”

Proverbs 10:12

🌼How This Verse Can Help You🌼

Doesn’t the weight of carrying hate in your heart around feel heavy? It weighs you down, fills you with anger, negativity and feelings of despair and ultimately consumes your entire existence. Who wants to live life like that?

Then again, far too many people do…but, you don’t have to be one of them.

This verse is letting us know that hatred never brings anything good. The only things that hate produces is chaos, dysfunction and suffering. Life does not have to be this way for us.

It all starts with you letting go. Then, it is still on you to do the work to maintain your love from the inside. Self- love is the root to all love, in my opinion – and no one can convince me of otherwise. You cannot properly love others or love anything in this world until you have first learned how to properly love yourself.

💛WHY, LOVE/HATE?💛

I know that the journey to finding self-love is not an easy road for everyone. I have spent my whole life on this path and am still growing. However, as I grow in my love for self, I grow in my capabilities to treat others better, to appreciate my blessings more, to value my time more, to enjoy my family more and each memory that we make. Each and every day, I try to make it a goal to push past mental illness and fight for my stability and happiness.

I will be honest: I am still working on letting certain things go. There is still a bit of hate in my heart for past experiences I endured and the people that caused them. I have to let that go, and I am dedicated to freeing myself.

The key word is – free.
