NEARLY TWO YEARS AGO *Whew* :
When I was 24 years old, I visited (arguably) one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and for certain, one of the most beautiful islands on the planet. My trip to Aruba was like a dream, only it really happened for me! It was picture perfect from start to finish. I had so much fun, and got the chance to truly absorb its beauty, languages, culture, clean water, music and peace. For ONCE in a long time, I felt at peace.
No doctors. No anti-psychotics. No antidepressants. No therapists. No Case Workers. No episodes. No anxiety attacks. No panic attacks. No brain fog. No nodding off. No anger. No shouting, crying, and hyperventilating in my car at night, hoping that no one can hear. No hurt. No pain.
Just – freedom. Only. Free.
YOU MIGHT ASK, “Why haven’t you been anywhere since?”
MY ANSWER: LIFE. Unemployment and my mental illness had completely taken over for a long while. I had to cancel many trips that I either could no longer afford, or just was not stable enough to handle and attend. It was sad for a long time, I will admit. HOWEVER, I am glad and thankful for my period of struggle and pain. Without it, I would have NEVER gained the strength, coping skills and bandwidth to sustain that I do have now. Mental illness has made me a stronger student, employee, girlfriend, friend, Christian, daughter, relative, author, poet, entrepreneur and human being overall. I thank GOD for it. I know that sounds odd to hear someone say, and depending on your beliefs – maybe even controversial. But, take no offense. For me, personally, I am thankful.
And I am ready to take over the world.
I know that traveling is considered a luxury for many, and of those many, it might pose as an unattainable goal right now. However, traveling has literally helped to save my life and manage mental illness, primarily, my bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety symptoms. When I am on the road, it is almost like they no longer exist. All I can hear, see and feel is ME. I can truly live in the moment. It’s really beautiful.
Whether you can pack your bags and fly to Aruba right now (or anywhere) or not, I hope that just a small getaway is in your near future. I really do.
I do not need to know you personally to know one thing that is for sure:
YOU DESERVE IT.
Here are a few pics from my experience:
And last but not least…
HERE LIES HEAVEN ON EARTH.
And, I traveled SOLO.
If I can travel with Bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety, you can TOO.
GO GET YOUR HEAVEN ON EARTH. GO FIND YOUR PARADISE.
We all need it. ❤
Deep down, we know that a breath of fresh air is a start to us discovering
true and complete inner happiness.
❤ Until next time. ❤
