I woke up at four thirty in the morning on the day of my first marathon.  Surprisingly, despite the combination of nerves, anxiety, and excitement, I was able to sleep through most of the night.

We had gotten to Washington, D.C. in the early afternoon the day before.  I wanted to give myself enough time to get situated, since it was the first race I signed up for that was more than a forty-five minute drive away…
